KFC Commercial Song

KFC Commercial
Song: “Get Together”
Artist: The Youngbloods

Have you been feeling a little “meh” lately? Well this KFC commercial is here to cheer you up with a message about togetherness. Yes, for the price of a bucket of chicken you too can gather all your friends for a meal. Question though, why is the bee girl the only one wearing an actual costume? Maybe she’s going to a cooler party afterward? We can only hope.

The song in this spot is on the nose, “Get Together” became a modest hit for folk rockers The Youngbloods in 1967. The song’s big break came later when it was used in a radio commercial by the National of Christians and Jews. A re-recording of the tune by The Youngbloods hit number 1 and it has since been covered extensively by people like Jefferson Airplane and the Indigo Girls. The strangest version of the song, however, can be attributed to Garth Brooks’ alter ego Chris Gaines*, who sampled the chorus for his 1999 song “Right Now”.

*Since Brooks doesn’t allow his music on iTunes, I went on over to his personal streaming site GhostTunes, but sadly Chris Gaines seems to have been scrubbed from existence, so maybe we’ll just consider that a sign.

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try and love one another right now
