I’ve seen this 2014 Target commercial about five times this week and every time I have thought, man I should write about that commercial. So here it is, I am finally writing about it and hopefully this means I won’t have those thoughts anymore which means I have more room in my brain for more useless thoughts.
The song in this commercial is “Pop It” by Anamanaguchi. Try saying their name three times fast. Actually, just try saying it once fast because I can’t. Syllable by syllable yo. They are an electronic band from NYC and looking at pics of them it’s no big surprise. I guess my only other guess would be that they are from LA. I would be really surprised if they were living in Idaho and making this kind of music. Or Wyoming. Does anyone live in either of those places? Silly Tahnee, lots of people do. See! These are the kinds of thoughts I need room in my head to have! If you are wondering where the name Anamanaguchi came from, your guess is as good as anyone else as interview answers vary. Who doesn’t like a good mystery? Nerd alert: they create their sound using video game hardware from the mid-to-late 1980s such as NES and a Game Boy and they composed music for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Pretty fitting I think. Nerd alert Part deux: their song “Jetpack Blues, Sunset Hues,” is the current theme to Chris Hardwick’s The Nerdist Podcast.
