Gentlemen Hall Interview – Springing Forward

Gentlemen Hall interview

It’s officially spring! It’s April! It’s time to get outside and enjoy some sunshine. So who better to be Artist of the Week than Gentlemen Hall, the band behind the upbeat, poppy tune in Target’s spring style ad? The band’s “Sail Into the Sun” is the perfect complement to the approaching spring weather. Kick back and relax.

What kind of band is Gentlemen Hall? How would you describe your sound

Gentlemen Hall is a six-piece alternative rock band. Our music is full of lush flutes, big drums, trippy synths, orgasmic guitars, sing along vocals, and tons of other ear candy. We really feel like you can hear every band member and what everyone contributes in a way that can only be Gentlemen Hall.

“Sail Into the Sun” is a pretty darn catchy track. Do you have more in the works for a new album?

Why thank you! Yes, we have a lot more where that came from. We are expecting to release our full-length album this summer. We’re really excited to see how people react to all the work we’ve done.

Your last album, We All Disappear, is on your website as name your price. How has that worked out for you? Would you consider doing it again?

It has worked out great! We really love when people pay with a tweet or a Facebook post. It helps spread the word and is the best way to get our music out to people. We will definitely consider doing the name your own price model on the next album, but we’re always looking for new and creative way to get our music out for people to hear.

I read that Gentlemen Hall has its own ice cream flavor. What’s it called and what’s in it?

Ben & Jerry’s in Boston has a smoothie called The Gentlemen Hall. It consists of lemon sorbet, seltzer water, and fresh squeezed lemon juice. All the proceeds go to The Boston Community Center for Music, which helps fund instruments for kids who otherwise could not afford them. We are really happy to be a part of it.

How has being in a Target ad affected your fan base?

We get more and more tweets and Facebook likes every day because of the Target commercial. People tweet saying they heard the song and love it. It has been great exposure for the song and the band. We hope it continues to grow and spread awareness about our music.

If you could have your music featured in any commercial for any product, what would it be and why?

Our goal has never been to get our songs in commercials or team up with brands. Our goal has always been to reach people. Commercials have become one vehicle of many to reach new listeners. Blogs have been very important in spreading awareness as well. We are very happy to have support from many great bloggers and they do a lot to propel us forward.
