Google Commercial Song – Man Eater

Google commercial

Song: Maneater – The Very Best of Daryl Hall & John Oates (Remastered)
Artist: Hall & Oates
Album: H2O (Remastered) – Hall & Oates

Welcome to throwback Thursday where I bring you another slightly older commercial. This week’s commercial is this Google commercial. I first saw the commercial a few months back, but apparently this commercial first came out in 2012! Google’s ads consistently catch my eye  and ears (read our previous posts here and here) and this ad is no different. The spot is fairly short and features a computer screen as someone is trying to write a hit song. That song is “Maneater” by Hall & Oates off their 1982 album H20.

Personally I feel like Hall & Oates is one of those duos that defies the laws of music. They have somehow stayed in pop culture’s radar and hipsters dress up like them for Halloween. It just boggles my mind. The duo did have six number one hits (which is sadly under Katy Perry‘s nine – WHY?) including “Rich Girl,” “Kiss on My List,” “Private Eyes,” “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do),” “Maneater,” and “Out of Touch.” The most interesting thing is how Daryl Hall and John Oates met. They were both attending a band competition in Philadelphia when gunfire erupted from two rival gangs, the boys headed for the safe service elevator and musical love was the result. It was announced this past October that they are 2014 nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Congrats boys and good luck.
